I like the detailed account of both the platforms from different perspectives. 15 minutes back I was in the dark about both the platforms with regards to where they are now and where they are heading [studying prospects of mobile app development].
Now I have a fair idea. Thanks :)

As an Android developer, I really liked this article.

You make great points. The thing that keeps me with Android though is not Android 2009 -vs- iPhone 2009, but Android in the future. I figured that Androids platform would be inferior from the beginning. I don't stick with Android because it's better. I stick with Android because it will crush iPhone, and all other mobile operating systems, in sheer volume in a couple of years.

Yes, iPhone dominates the smartphone market right now, but in two years or less, iPhone will be a minority player compared to all of the Android devices that exist. Motorola alone is releasing over 80 Android-powered phones in 2010. 80 phones!! Both low-end crap for the kids, and high-end stuff for gadget addicts.

All in all, I'd say I'd say I'm betting that Android will be run on BILLIONS of phones in the future, and that is where the overwhelming opportunity to sell your apps will be.

Another fun fact is that the Android marketplace doesn't allow you to buy stuff in Canada. Only the free stuff is available.
